  • Status: decided

Decision

Julius Bachmann’s newsletter growth strategy will use a free lead magnet funnel (Meta ads primary, LinkedIn secondary) with a 2-4 question qualification survey on the thank-you page, gating a high-ticket offer for high-fit leads and a newsletter down-sell for low-fit. No paid acquisition until a back-end monetizable offer is in place.

Context

Julius’s newsletter has 70%+ open rates but is shrinking (approx 1% loss per send) with no active top-of-funnel. Without a back-end offer, ad spend has no recovery mechanism. Julius is building toward a book on ownership culture (German launch next year) and wants to untie revenue from his time.

Options considered

  • Course as back-end offer: explicitly ruled out by Julius.
  • LinkedIn as primary ad channel: kept as secondary mix; Meta recommended as primary for cost per email benchmarks ($2-$2.50 US).
  • Start paid acquisition without a back-end offer: rejected - pure cost with no recovery.

Consequences

  • Michael sends funnel example page (TikTok offer flow) to Julius and Stefan as a structural reference.
  • Michael and Ben brainstorm back-end product paths before Julius commits to paid acquisition.
  • Julius drafts a 3-5 page lead magnet on ownership culture (agency, not equity) targeting the existing investor list.
  • Julius sends overview of product ideas already considered and rejected.
