Blake E’s feedback on Hermes’ proposed pillar structure
Blake E reviewed Hermes’ first pass at pillar percentages for 16 Megaphone clients and flagged structural issues beyond just the weights:
-
Technical clients are NOT thought leaders, they are problem experts. For Nuon, Fasset, Maxime, Kevin (Polar): they want to be credible voices about the problems their customers face, not about how their own product solves them. Being an expert in the problem space, not a solution pusher. This is a texture/positioning thing that should layer on top of the pillar mix.
-
Ben Gusberg is outlier-replication only. All he cares about is surfacing AI content that has already proven to work. He does not want to be a thought leader or create evergreen content from scratch. He wants to copy proven posts.
-
Too many pillars per person. Blake thinks Hermes added too many and made some too specific. Example: Michelle Kwok’s “Principal Club” and “BlueBox” seem too specific to be true content pillars. A real pillar should be broad enough that hundreds of topics fit underneath it and they can reliably talk about it every week. Typically 2-3 really core buckets per client.
Why it matters
This is not just weight tuning. Blake is saying Hermes misunderstood the pillar concept itself for some clients. The pillar field was empty for all 22 active clients even though voice bibles had the pillars written up, so Hermes was working from scratch. Blake’s critique suggests:
- The definition of “pillar” needs tightening (broad, multi-topic, weekly-sustainable buckets, not tactics or initiatives).
- Technical founder positioning is “credible problem expert” not “thought leader pushing our solution.”
- Ben G is a special case (pure replication, no original thought leadership).
Blake said he and Blake S will provide corrections only for clients that need changes. Once they sign off, the weights get loaded and Studio’s pillar coverage view starts reporting actual mix vs targets.
Next step
Blake E + Blake S review, then load into Studio. Four clients have no pillars at all in their voice bibles (augment, fasset, emil-barr, project-omega/company) and need pillars defined before they can be tagged.
