Decision

The newsletter is renamed from Hard Calls to Anyhouck. Positioning moves from decision quality (the how) to leverage (the what). Tagline: “How to build leverage, make hard calls, and stay in control.”

Why

  • Hard Calls named a moment. Leverage names an outcome, and outcomes are what readers buy.
  • Leverage is the only frame under which the four Rye Valley businesses cohere: they all sell output without headcount. Under “hard calls” they were a non sequitur.
  • Michael’s own story is a leverage story (four companies, nine people, a house, a marriage, more balance), with hard calls as the mechanism.
  • People already say it to him unprompted.

The name

Anyhouck (Houck is pronounced “howk”, rhymes with cow). Chosen over Knowhouck because it matches the register of what ships on Sunday (notes, not lessons), carries his story of moving on, and avoids the “I have know-how, you do not” read. Puns must lead with the familiar word, which ruled out every Houck-first candidate.

What did NOT change

  • michaelhouck.co remains the site. Anyhouck is one product on it. (Decision of 2026-09-02.)
  • “Hard calls” as a phrase stays everywhere; it is in the tagline.
  • Holdstead remains a concept, never a title.

Actions

  • anyhouck.com bought and 301’d to michaelhouck.co/newsletter (Cloudflare, verified live).
  • Every site string renamed; bio line unified; footer and schema corrected to Rye Valley LLC.
  • Canon updated: Anyhouck (formerly Hard Calls; legal entity: Founding Journey) carries the ruling block.
  • Pending Michael: mail.anyhouck.com in beehiiv; beehiiv publication rename; Pro/Stack review.
