Decision
Casper is permanently retired. All proactive engagements for Megaphone clients are now generated through the Studio tool using Fable. Fable-generated engagements are backed by full client context from the brain, making them meaningfully higher quality than Casper’s Sonnet-powered output.
Context
Casper had been the proactive engagement tool for commenting on behalf of clients. Quality was low (used Sonnet, no client context). A specific incident accelerated the decision: a comment posted for Jeffrey Evans (Mantis) on Peter Walker’s LinkedIn post prompted Peter Walker to call it out as “AI spam” and threaten to block Jeffrey. The comment was reviewed live by Michael and Blake and did not read as AI; the issue is likely comment frequency, not quality. Regardless, the incident surfaced the structural weakness of Casper.
Options Considered
- Keep Casper, improve prompts. Rejected: quality ceiling too low without client context.
- Pause proactive engagements entirely. Rejected: it is a core service and it works when done well.
- Move all proactive engagement generation to Studio/Fable, backed by brain client context. Selected.
Consequences
- For existing clients who have opted out or paused: make the case at renewal and onboarding for new clients that proactive engagement is non-negotiable and part of the audience-building strategy.
- Jeffrey Evans: removed from proactive engagement list through upcoming renewal (~2 months). Michael joining Blake Stewart’s call with Jeffrey this week to gauge if it comes up. Steve (also at Mantis, primary account contact) has high trust in the team; renewal should be fine.
- For new sales calls: set expectation upfront that proactive engagement is required. Clients cannot opt out.
- Brenton (Roebling) and John also currently paused or unresponsive; will be re-evaluated under Studio/Fable workflow.
