Decision

Jolt moves to a “Founder OS”-style offer: one-time implementation fee ($10-15k) with an upsell to ongoing retainer (~$2-3k/month). Cold email deprioritized as a primary lead gen channel in favor of targeted ads, organic content, and newsletter case studies.

Context

Ashon brought a cold email service option ($35/month, 8k emails/month) and explored various go-to-market paths. The team worked through what type of buyer Jolt is actually targeting (founders who won't blink at $10-15k upfront, not $5k/month types) and what offer structure would resonate with them. The Ben case study and a16z repost created a real credibility signal to anchor the package around.

Options Considered

  • Mass cold email ($35/month, 8k emails/month): Ashon’s initial option. Michael’s assessment: AI has commoditized inboxes; response rates steadily declining; only hyper-personalized outreach breaks through. Not the right primary channel.
  • Stalker-level organic DM outreach: Ashon’s instinct for a targeted research list + personal DMs. Michael aligned - same playbook used for TikTok founder outreach via Rina. Good complement, not a replacement for inbound.
  • Implementation fee + retainer (chosen): One-time $10-15k scoped implementation, upsell to $2-3k/month ongoing. Client can self-run after implementation, but ongoing retainer proves continued value.

Consequences

  • Michael to draft the Jolt implementation system (scope, deliverables, what clients can self-run post-implementation).
  • Ben case study to be written and added to email drip for new subscribers.
  • a16z repost is a live credibility signal - usable on founder calls immediately.
  • Targeted ads with a qualification funnel and newsletter case studies are the approved lead gen mix.
  • Ashon can still build a targeted outreach list for organic DMs as a supplemental channel.
