Decision
Rye Valley’s company brain is a git-versioned markdown vault at ~/ryevalley-brain/ on
rye-valley-mini. Granola is the company-wide meeting recorder; everyone at the company
uses it for all meetings. Access is two-tier: team tier (default) and owner tier
(Owner tier: payroll and general business financial detail).
Context
Rye Valley had no queryable company brain: context lived in agent memory, Slack scrollback, Notion client hubs, and Michael’s head. Hockey Stick sells exactly this system, so Rye Valley running it is both leverage and the reference implementation.
Options considered
- Notion as primary store: rejected as primary (slower for agents to query, weaker versioning); may be mirrored later for human browsing.
- Vector DB / RAG stack: rejected at current scale; grep over structured markdown wins until ~5k documents.
Consequences
- Phase 2: capture rituals (Granola pipeline, Slack nightly distiller, decisions ritual, email sweep).
- Phase 3: existing crons retrofit to write results back here.
- Any team-facing query surface must exclude Owner tier.
