Notable excerpts
On his identity and purpose:
“I think of myself as a builder, as an entrepreneur. But first and foremost, as a father and a husband, that’s really where my purpose comes from. That’s the most important thing to me. And everything that I do is kind of looked at through that lens.”
On core values (vulnerability, transparency, kindness, courage):
“At Haya, every single person sees every single one of our numbers. Nothing is ever hidden.”
On courage vs. anxiety:
“I’m not a guy that’s absent of fear in any capacity. I’m actually a pretty anxious guy. I have kind of dull anxiety a lot of the time. But the difference between me and a lot of other people, at least that I’ve noticed, is I do it anyways, right? Even though I’m afraid, I’m still going to push myself to do it because I know that’s where growth comes from.”
On lawsuits as a content angle:
“I was really afraid of them early in my career. And, you know, just the fear and uncertainty of it all is really intimidating. But understanding how important it is… It used to be that the idea of being in a lawsuit and being in contention with somebody was really scary. And now it’s unfortunately just part of the process.”
On D2C vs. retail:
“The biggest challenge with retail, right, is in D2C when you find something that’s working, you control the throttle. And with retail, you don’t control the throttle.” “The intricacies around how to make sure that you’re building it in a way where it’s truly accretive, rather than cannibalizing.”
On why consumer:
“This idea of making physical things that people interact with in their life and bringing something physical into reality. I really love that. In the day and age we live in with D2C, that whole process of figuring out how to get that message out and educating people. It’s like a game that needs to be cracked.”
