[Roman Lewcke]: Where I’m coming from Calling from, yeah. I’m in Bali. Bali. Oh, wow. Sounds incredible. Yes. It’s still, I’m just like, it’s 5.45 in the morning. So I basically just fell out of my bed into your meeting. [Max Palmer]: Okay. [Roman Lewcke]: It’s 4.45 here in New York. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Okay. [Max Palmer]: Um, So I’m Hauk’s chief of staff, so I handle most of these megaphone demos for him. [Roman Lewcke]: So I’d love to start just hearing, you know, why you’re interested in megaphone and how you heard about us. Oh, that’s easy to answer. So I’m also on Beehive and I read Michael’s newsletter. And so ended up clicking on that link at the bottom of his newsletter. Cool. Yeah, that’s it. And so I find the concept itself is very interesting, because a few months ago someone approached me on Twitter with a similar proposal, but it didn’t seem legit or serious. It seemed to me like another, you know, in front of the engagement groups and like on Instagram, this was a thing, but then they sort of disappeared back years ago. And they had a very bad reputation. And all this, and I saw that and this is in a way, I don’t know, it’s similar, but it looks legit. It looks professional, and in my head, this looks professional, so I thought I’d give it a try. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, so yeah, Megaphones, it’s professional. So we have almost 200 creators using the platform and several hundred more users like yourself using it to grow their audiences. So it’s a creator engagement marketplace a place where users like yourself can get organic, authentic engagement from big creators in your niche. So that’s how it works in a nutshell. Are you doing this to try to grow the account of a business or to grow your personal account? What is your use case? [Roman Lewcke]: Well, my newsletter is a personal, it’s a, it’s a business, it’s a personal brand business. [Max Palmer]: Okay. So you’re trying to get more subscribers? [Roman Lewcke]: Yes, essentially. And I’m not as far away. So I’m a founder. I do identify with Michael’s, um, uh, message or, or, um, uh, business. Yeah, the core message because I’m a founder, too. I had, I was, I founded them a non tech company years ago, okay, in Mexico for 2008. And then I built it into a seven figure business. We had branches all over Latin America. And I had also distributors in the US, but I went bankrupt in 2022. I lost everything. And during the pandemic, And then I lived in Mexico for 20 years during that time. And then at 21, I had to leave Mexico because of what happened. And then I became a digital nomad. And so now I’m just, then I sort of jumped around between trying different things, not really clear, lacking clarity. On what I would do next. And also I like photography, but I wasn’t really able to monetize my photography passion. It was really hard. And so ended up starting this newsletter last year in December. And so, and it started out I didn’t have a clear plan, I was really just writing myself, sort of getting my thoughts on a piece, on a block, so to speak, writing to my younger self about whatever came up. And now I’m trying to make it more into a bit, I’m trying to turn it into a business because I was also lacking clarity. I think the name of my newsletter is expressing that same lack of clarity, The Uncharted Road, where I was going. And so I’m thinking about rebranding it and making it more, the idea is to, so this is for guys who are also entrepreneurial founders, but more solopreneurs that want to go like become digital nomads basically and make money online. So this is basically my target audience. Interesting. So this is why I’m in Bali. So last week I started to connect with other nomads and English guy made an interview. So a little bit, a little bit similar to what’s Michael doing, on a smaller scale and on a, not as professional. I’m not there yet, but Yeah. Okay. So great. [Max Palmer]: We have, you know, we have creators in the founder space, in the startup space, in the personal development space, in the software space. So those might be some niches that would be a good fit for you. When you onboard onto Megafone, you’re going to pick three different categories. And those categories will help, will tell us which creators you, or what type of creators you want to engage with your content. And then creators from those different categories will engage with your content when you amplify a post on Megafone. [Roman Lewcke]: Yeah, so I guess this is where I, where it gets a little bit, I need help because I really haven’t, I haven’t had really a positive experience so far. Yesterday, I just saw that I had a, so I’ve only had three broadcasts that I will actually picked up by a creator. [Max Palmer]: Okay. So you’re using megaphone. Oh yeah. I didn’t realize that. [Roman Lewcke]: Oh, I thought you, you, you had, account in front of you. [Max Palmer]: No, I don’t. [Roman Lewcke]: Can you pull that up? Because it’s actually, it’s a problem because I have, so it’s not, I was, I mean, it’s a problem because it’s not working. It’s not working properly. I mean, I’ve tried, look at here. I’ve, I’ve, I’ve done 10 broadcasts made. I’ve made 10 broadcasts from which only three were amplified. And to be honest, one, I wouldn’t even count as such because it was just, I got 16 impressions from that. It says 27.9k reach, but that was just the follower count of that particular creator. And then I asked for a repost and he gave me a comment and that comment produced 16 impressions. So wouldn’t really count that, costs only $3. [Max Palmer]: It's a new Twitter account? [Roman Lewcke]: Yeah, it is a new account. So, but yesterday, before I went to sleep, I made another one and now it's sort of, I'm just looking at it and it looks a little bit better. It's the first one that could be, that I would call mildly successful. But it's not enough, right? I'm gonna be honest, I did have way higher expectations because on your website, you do promote, yeah, you can make like, I mean, there's a few examples with not much money that get tons of engagement and followers Well, I [Max Palmer]: haven't really seen that. Yeah. So I see, I mean, one of your posts got 2000, 2.3 thousand impressions. Which one? The hardest part of entrepreneurship. It was seven hours ago. [Roman Lewcke]: That was just, yeah, this is the first one that got some, some amplification from, this is, this is the one I posted. This is a broadcast. Yes. Um, it was the first one that I could would call. Okay. Mildly successful. But there are the other ones, because there's another one, the one on the 12th of November, two days before. I think it's the same creator, because it says it has the same reach. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, so I mean, you know, we can't guarantee it's going to go viral. How much are you allocating? What budget are you setting for each post? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Okay. [Roman Lewcke]: So at the beginning, I started with only like 10, $15, $15. And then your staff was talking to you. One of your, it wasn't, I don't know if it was you. No, it was. Oh no. Obviously it wasn't you because, um, you, you didn't know I had an account. So your coworker, he told me that, um, 10, 15 should work, but it's a little bit low. So, so also, okay. I did not know, because it's a little bit confusing to be honest, take this as constructive critique, criticism, because when you go on this platform and you come in with a high expectation, because on the, it's okay, you're promoting it, I get it, okay, but then you want to, then you have to, first of all, it says LinkedIn too, there's no way I can connect LinkedIn, this is another thing I did not know. You have to create another account for it. [Max Palmer]: to add a LinkedIn account. [Roman Lewcke]: Okay. That's just a little bit unclear. I think then, um, when I broadcast, let me say, okay, you can either ask for a post for, uh, for a comment, for a, for a repost or for a quote, but it doesn't say that those have different prices or that have different chances to pick up. It does also not recommend what time, right? And so stuff a little bit more guidance, would be really helpful because there's no manual, so to speak, how to use this. And so the results of my campaigns or broadcasts, I think they're reflected. I went up to 30, 35, and 40, and with almost no difference in response. So the last one, the last three were all 35. It's going to take time. [Max Palmer]: Go ahead. [Roman Lewcke]: What I would say is positive and not negative is that although I set it up with a budget of $40, I only ended up paying $6. So that was fair, I guess, because it didn't really get the results I hope for. So yeah, I mean, yeah, it's just, I don't know, maybe I'm just not understanding the platform well enough, or I haven't, or wasn't very lucky. But you tell me this is why I wanted to be on that call. [Max Palmer]: And yeah, yeah. So so I mean, as you saw, like it didn't use all your budget. You're starting from scratch. So you know, you only have 260 followers. And so you you know, getting the engagement like you did seven hours ago with the post, that's the hardest part of entrepreneurship, getting, you know, over 2000 impressions for such a small account is really good. So that's a good step. Um, and, and yeah, we definitely recommend spending more than 10 or $15, you know, try to keep it at that $35 range so you can get multiple careers to engage. Can I ask you a question? [Roman Lewcke]: Are you looking at my account right now? [Max Palmer]: I am. [Roman Lewcke]: I'm looking at your Twitter account. Okay. Let me pull up my, because I'm, I think we're missing a point here. If you don't let me, can you see my, my megaphone account now? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yes. [Roman Lewcke]: Okay. So you, you see that here's my budget. You see, I went, it was really at the beginning I started at 15, but I didn't know about the, the, the budget requirements until I started because first. [Max Palmer]: Yeah. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: $15. Sorry. [Max Palmer]: You, you’ve only spent, you’ve only gotten $15 worth of engagement. So, um, I think the real problem, here is that you're not posting at a good time, since you're in Bali. That's my guess, because if you've done 10 broadcasts and have set those budgets for each one, it should be spending more than $15 for you. But on many of those, it didn’t spend any, which means no creators engaged with it, which means it probably was casted at a bad time. So the majority of our creators are us based. So I’m worried if you’re posting, you know, in Bali time, um, that might be in the middle of the night here in the U S and well, I, yeah, you’re right. [Roman Lewcke]: And, and I, and I, and I, um, I stopped doing that once I was, because let me just give you also like an overview. How was my interaction with you guys? So at the beginning, I started posting and I didn’t know that. So I posted one and you’re right, it didn’t get picked up because of that and because of the budget. And so, but your staff told me, oh, there’s a bug. So I was actually thinking that something was wrong with the platform because your staff, then you gave me $10 to spend extra because of the problem with some bug on the platform and they couldn't find the bug and I don't know. But then I think just two days ago, Oh, now we know what, what's going on. It's because you're spending too, too, not enough. And then just yesterday or the day before I did, Oh, this is the wrong time. So it's okay. I mean, I just, it's just, I don't know because I'm new in the platform, you know, at the beginning and then I'll, I'll do whatever you tell me, but yeah. Yeah. [Max Palmer]: You, you've still only spent $15 though. So, you know, You definitely need to set a good budget and set your posts at the right time, and you’ll see more momentum come in. You’re still growing from scratch though, so don’t expect to just go viral right away. [Roman Lewcke]: No. No, it’s okay. I try. Yeah, I get this. I’m just telling you that. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, this is good feedback. [Roman Lewcke]: How you onboard a client does matter. If you give me good information, I can make better decisions. [Max Palmer]: That’s all I’m saying. I agree. [Roman Lewcke]: And this is good feedback that I’ll give our engineering and design team. Yeah. So is there a way I can schedule posts? Because this is a problem. So yesterday, I posted, I broadcasted before I went bed like 10 p.m. Here which is I think it’s a 8 or 9 a.m. In New York so before I went to bed at 11 or something a 9 a.m. New York time I posted this last one and got picked up and he got this what so far my best result yeah yeah so there’s no way yet to schedule on mega Okay. So what time should I post here in… I do recommend posting it, you know… [Max Palmer]: How about now? No, I mean, you can. I typically would recommend posting it in the morning in the U.S. Time. So before I go to bed. [Roman Lewcke]: Like yesterday was the best time? Yeah, yeah. [Max Palmer]: Between 8 and 10 a.m. Eastern Time in the U.S. Yes. I don’t know what time that is all the time. [Roman Lewcke]: So we are, so right now it’s 6 a.m. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: here. Yeah. [Roman Lewcke]: So you’re 13 hours ahead. Yeah. So if I go to bed at 11 p.m., that’s a good time. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Uh, yeah. [Roman Lewcke]: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. That would be 10 a.m. In Eastern time, New York time, and 8 a.m. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: L.A. [Max Palmer]: time, right? Yes. [Roman Lewcke]: Or no, that would be 7 a.m. L.A. Time. Oh, 7 a.m. L.A. Okay. All right. Okay, I’ll try that. Now, would you recommend to try different types of like because so should I always like because like should I focus only like on these around entrepreneurship or can I also try different things that and broadcast not related topics like just for example travel, digital nomad life or does that not get me good results? Should I just stay on one? [Max Palmer]: Yeah, so whatever categories you picked when you I don’t remember. Okay, I can find it out and we can chat over email. But yeah, whichever categories you picked when you onboarded, those are the categories that you should post about because those are the types of creators that will engage with you. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Okay. [Roman Lewcke]: Okay. All right. Um, my idea was to offer this to my audience too, as I signed up to the affiliate program. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. How big is your audience? [Roman Lewcke]: It’s relatively small, but it’s engaged and it’s growing steadily. Steadily. It’s 1500. Subscribers and behind. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: That’s good. [Roman Lewcke]: How have you gotten most of your subscribers? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: How? [Roman Lewcke]: Yeah. Through my social media and ReFind. [Max Palmer]: Refine, yeah. [Roman Lewcke]: I think Refine is the best source I’ve found so far because you only pay for engaged ones. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, I’ve used Refine. [Roman Lewcke]: You use Refine too? [Max Palmer]: Yeah, I have a small soccer newsletter that I write. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Oh, also on Beehive? [Roman Lewcke]: Yes. Oh, OK. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Soccer? Yep. [Roman Lewcke]: You play soccer? [Max Palmer]: I do. [Roman Lewcke]: Oh, FC Bayern. You’re a Bayern fan? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Bayern Munich? [Max Palmer]: Of course. Are you German? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: I’m German. Okay. Okay. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, I’m German. [Roman Lewcke]: I am. You did not pick up on my accent? Well, I picked up on an accent. [Max Palmer]: I wasn’t sure if it was German. Okay. [Roman Lewcke]: Yeah, it’s probably because I’ve been in so many places that my accent is always Yeah. Sort of Yeah. I don’t know. Um, okay, cool. Then I’ll just keep trying, I guess. Right. Or any other suggestions, recommendations? Continue to create better content. [Max Palmer]: That’s the most important thing is to create good content. Megaphone can’t, can’t help amplify, you know, bad content. So just continue to work on your content and, uh, and, you megaphone will, will amplify good content really well. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Okay. Yeah. [Roman Lewcke]: So is it, do, do these create, how many creators you said you have? Uh, we have almost like 200, 200 and only X and LinkedIn or also other accounts, just, just Twitter and LinkedIn right now. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: now. [Roman Lewcke]: Okay. All right. Okay, Max, then I appreciate the time. Let me just know, please, or reconfirm to me the initial categories I chose, because I really don’t remember. I will. In case it’s necessary, we can Yep. [Max Palmer]: I will let you know over email. Okay, cool. [Roman Lewcke]: Then have a good night, I guess. Yes, and have a good morning. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, thank you. [Roman Lewcke]: I’m sipping my coffee now. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: All right. [Max Palmer]: Enjoy. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Thank you. [Roman Lewcke]: Bye.
