[Michael Houck]: Hey, what’s up? [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: I’m good. How are you? [Michael Houck]: I’m good as well. Just getting the day started here. Um, so it’s a cold one in Montana. Oh, okay. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: It’s really hot here in Canada for some reason. So I don’t know what’s going on. [Michael Houck]: What, uh, what part of Canada are you in? [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Uh, in Quebec, Montreal. Yeah. [Michael Houck]: I’ve, uh, I was up there for the F1 race. Um, not this year but less. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Oh yes, yes, yes. Every year it’s like so crazy here. I wanted to go but I had to go to Toronto so right the weekend when it happens I didn’t get to experience the whole thing. [Michael Houck]: Well you probably got out of there when it was like the most crowded it is all year. It was really hard to get around it sometimes. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: No you’re right, you’re right. It gets really crazy. I’ve only been living here for like two years so I haven’t like done a lot. But no, it’s nice. And also, I’ve never been to the US. So I’m excited, because I’m going next month. So where are you headed in the US? Miami, of course, I feel like it’s a rite of passage. [Michael Houck]: I went to college in Miami. I love it. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Really? [Michael Houck]: Yeah, it’s a it’s a great city. So much to do so much good food, very underrated food city, I think. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Really? Okay. Okay. I’m a foodie. So good to know. [Michael Houck]: Yeah, if you want any recs, just just let me know. I’ll send some over. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Yes, honestly, please do, because I’m the worst at planning trips. And this time I want to be that friend who’s like, yeah, let’s go here. I just kind of show up and I’m like, I’m down for whatever. [Michael Houck]: Yeah, I’ll send over some some places that it’s just like my faves. There’s this French restaurant. Oh, it’s so good. It’s in the neighborhood the Grove. Got it. Got it. I’ll send it over. I’ll send it over. But it looks like Jen is here, so I’m going to let her in. [Jennifer Kamara]: Hi, team. Sorry I’m a few minutes late. My calls have been running over this morning. Nice to meet you. [Michael Houck]: No worries, Jen. We’ll work to get you back on track to here and not having the next one run over too. No worries. [Jennifer Kamara]: Amazing. How is everyone doing? [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Pretty good. I hope you’re doing well. [Jennifer Kamara]: I’m doing great. Mike, are you tired? What’s the hesitation? [Michael Houck]: I’m a little tired, but I just drove 11 hours to go from Salt Lake City to Whitefish, Montana, which is where I currently am. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: OK. [Michael Houck]: So I’m here for a conference. So I got a late start today. [Jennifer Kamara]: Hopefully you have some beautiful views though. [Michael Houck]: Oh yeah, it is very gorgeous here for sure. How are you? How was the trip? You were traveling so much. [Jennifer Kamara]: I was tired. We got back on Saturday. It was five weeks in Europe. It was beautiful, but also very nice to be home and so just settling back in this week. [Michael Houck]: Nice, yeah, always good to just come back and get back in the routine a little bit, you know? [Jennifer Kamara]: No matter, it’s just nice to have your systems, like your house is set up how you like it. It’s wonderful to come back home. [Michael Houck]: Cool. Well, I guess I’ll let you guys do some intros and then Jen, we can just talk through any questions or next steps that you want. [Jennifer Kamara]: Perfect. Hey, how do I pronounce your name so that I’m not butchering it? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Ketsia. [Jennifer Kamara]: Ketsia. Beautiful. And where is it from What’s the origin? [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: It’s actually a Jewish name. Oh, wow. My mom loves Jewish names. So she gave us a very like biblical Jewish names to all of her kids. And so, yeah, people are always surprised because obviously, I’m African. [Jennifer Kamara]: So you’re like, oh, okay. Where in Africa is your family originating from I’m from Sierra Leone, West Africa. That’s why I asked. That’s so cool. I literally grew up there. I was a I wasn’t born there, but I grew up there. My father is Sierra Leonean. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: That’s so cool. I’m Congolese, so Democratic Republic. [Jennifer Kamara]: So still on the West Coast. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Well, yeah, but more central too. Because it’s like right there in the middle. But yes, I mean, there’s two Congos, so to be fair. [Jennifer Kamara]: Did you move to the US? Like when? [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: I actually moved to Canada. OK. So did you spend your whole life in Canada? Bit in Congo as well. Well, background a little bit complicated. I’m Congolese, but I grew up in Belgium. And then I moved to I mean, I’m born in Congo, lived in Belgium, moved to Canada. I’m a little bit everywhere. [Jennifer Kamara]: So beautiful. You’re a world citizen. I love it. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Thank you. I love it, too. It’s been really great. But also, it’s cool to know that you’re I mean, you’re African grew up, you know, in Africa. [Jennifer Kamara]: Yeah. That’s really cool. Yeah. Okay. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’ll stop pestering you with questions for a second. Um, so since we started about origin stories, my mother is Ukrainian and my father is Sierra Leonean. I was born in Ukraine, grew up in Sierra Leone, would spend summers in Ukraine. I moved to the U S when I was 16 years old for undergrad. So I’ve been here maybe 16 years. Um, and so also feel very much like a global citizen, no places home. At home is with the people that I love. I am currently a CEO founder coach, and I’ve been building my practice actually for it’s coming up on two years now. And I’ve done really no marketing for it. It’s been a lot of organic, just I coach a few founders, they then recommend me to others, they recommend me to some companies. And that’s how I’ve been building my practice, which has been amazing. I, in March, gave birth to a baby boy, my first kid, and he’s adorable. Thank you so much. But as a new mom, you can imagine time is tight. To make things even more beautiful, I’m pregnant again, and I’m expecting our second child in April. And so my time is not going to be freeing up any time soon. And also coming back to the business, I do feel like I should be investing in some sort of telling people a little bit about what I do. It’s been great, it’s been wonderful, but I think I should responsibly be also distributing a little bit more than I do right now. And social media is just not something I inherently enjoy doing. Yeah, I would say I think I need to work a little bit more on like you can’t you can have an amazing product first time founders worry about product but second time founders know it’s about the distribution and I think I really need to invest in the distribution. I don’t love social media and so hence I’m looking for a partner to support me on on the writing piece and then I’m very like I’m very picky about what I spend my time on these days which is complicating things further and so just looking for a long-term partner on the writing piece. I did not before I was working with maybe Jacob and a little bit Nick, but I think I need more woman. There are just some pieces of the way I communicate that there’s some nuances that I think it’s hard. It’s hard, I think, to get for a guy to get the voice of and I didn’t realize this before. So I’m just learning this too, because this is my first time trying as well. So I just recently reached out to Mike and I was like, hey, do you actually have a female writer? That we can try. And so I’m sure there’ll be other things that I learn as we go. And so thank you for bearing with me as we discover this together. And what am I looking for? Someone who can get to know my voice. And so, for instance, with Jacob, we didn’t really get a chance to hop on a call and get to know one another. Hence why I wanted to start this off like how we did with Nick, because I think that really helped Nick. Things I want to make sure we get right are I want every post valuable. And I think I want to have maybe a ratio of like, maybe 80% are valuable, and then maybe one, if it’s out of 10. And then maybe one is like, a bit promotional. And then maybe one has like a personal story. But I really want to like harp more on value delivery. I think a ton of what I see on LinkedIn and social media in general is a bunch of just noise. And I that’s why I don’t like it. That’s why I don’t really care to be on it. And so I’d really, if I’m going to be posting, I want to avoid cringe content. I want to make sure I’m not posting stuff that’s just fluff and that we do go deep on each post. And so I think we had a good start with some of the posts with Nick. And again, this isn’t Jacob’s fault, but I feel like the stuff that we had with Jacob was a bit fluffy. Anything else? How would I describe the personality? I would I want it to be intellectual, but also sassy and confident and fun. Let me know if there’s any other specific questions. I’m trying to think of anything else that might be relevant for you. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: I do have one. This might be random, but I was stalking you a little bit and I saw that you did use emojis. Is it possible for you to send me your most used emojis and how you like to use them? Because I feel like that that also kind of reflects personality. I think that would be really cool to know. [Jennifer Kamara]: Absolutely. I can totally do that. [Michael Houck]: Yeah. And Jen, I think it totally makes sense. And I think, yeah, the wanting to lead with value is the right strategy also for this is the type of business that you’re building and that you’re in. Because what you really want to use social media for is to build trust with people who could eventually either refer want to work with you or to work with you directly. And so I think putting the more value out on social media itself is the right strategy, helps you build that trust faster. So I think we’re aligned there. And if we want, we can go back and sort of tweak some of the stuff that Jacob had done to make it more aligned to that. Or we can just kind of start fresh, depends on what you want to do. But totally makes sense. I think we’re all on the same page here, because we were talking about that a bit yesterday too. [Jennifer Kamara]: Amazing. Yeah. And I can go back to the post and share. I did approve some by Jacob before I went on break. And then yesterday, because he did a couple more. And again, really, it’s not a knock on Jacob. We didn’t get to meet. And so I didn’t get to tell him this face to face. And I think actually, Mike, I think that’s actually something that I think I recommend you do with every single client. It’s quite important. Because I’m looking back now, I’m like, this is actually a miss. And it makes sense, because he never got to meet me, hear how I talk, understand what’s important. Me. So that makes sense. So I did approve some by him that I actually wouldn’t post. Like I read them again yesterday. I’m like, I’m not actually wouldn’t post this. I probably approved it because it was time was tight. And, um, and, but so I can tell you the ones that I do still like, and then maybe we can go from there. Um, I can also share with you some workbooks that I’ve designed for my clients, just to give you a little bit more content. Um, And then I’d like to, do I understand this correctly, Mike, that we have three more weeks of the second month? [Michael Houck]: I think, excuse me, so my understanding was that Jacob had sort of batched some content before you went away for a couple of weeks in the future. And I don’t know exactly off the top of my head where that lines up to what has sort of been delivered. But what I’ll say is that, especially since that content, or at least the majority of that content didn’t sort of meet what you were looking for. I’m happy to sort of work with you on something that makes sense there for this next month. Cause you know, in the spirit of ownership, that’s, that’s what we should do. [Jennifer Kamara]: Okay. So just let me know how many weeks we have left in the second month, and then let’s just use that. Right. I’m going to have to practice saying it. Please don’t do more than those number of weeks, just so that we can try each other out. And then let me get back to you and Mike. Before we go into a third month, just to avoid any more complications on either side. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Cool. [Michael Houck]: Okay. So what I can do then, I’ll take the action item today to sort of figure out exactly where that lies. And Jen, I’ll send you an email. Here’s what we have. And then you let me know what you want to do about the posts from Jacob. We can start fresh or we can edit those. [Jennifer Kamara]: I don’t think it’s worth editing because I didn’t love the ideas. I felt like the ideas from now were much stronger, we just had a call and then he came up with ideas and they made sense because he, he had met me, he understood me. Um, so I think just maybe let’s, and let me, I have this pulled up and so I can just DM you right now after the call, Mike, and you can share with kids. Yeah. Just so you know, which ones I like, and then maybe just scrap the rest and we can restart. And then Mike just let, let me know how many weeks you have left in the second month, and then, um, just also to manage Catia’s time. So she doesn’t do more than that number of posts. And then let’s do a review of them just so you have a chance to get better. And just so that I can properly evaluate whether this, this is working. [Michael Houck]: Cool. Okay. I’ll also add Catia to our, our Slack channel. I know you had said you wanted to shoot Jacob a note. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Jennifer Kamara]: Can I, let me shoot him a note just because again, I want to, I think he’s great. Uh, and I want him to hear from you. So I’ll just ping him and then I’ll ping him right after this call and then I’ll ping you, Mike. [Michael Houck]: Cool. And I’ll get everything set up with the channel. Ketsia, I know we have the recording of Jen’s intro with Nick early on, which should have answered the sort of voice type questions, but I wanted to throw it to you, Ketsia, if there’s any questions that you want to talk through with Jen now while we’re on the call before we hop on. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Yes. I think, I don’t know. I don’t know how comfortable you are with like, in terms of, you know, talking, I know that questions are being sent. I’m very much of a talker. So I love sitting face to face with people and then kind of talking things through. Is that okay with you? Okay, because obviously I’m stalking, I was stalking your page and I thought that you had some really interesting perspectives, especially like as a woman and like all that stuff, especially in leadership positions and I’d like to you know, dig [Jennifer Kamara]: a little bit deeper. We can also stay on if you wanted to dig deeper on some things and we can let Mike go. Mike, before we do that, let me ask you, um, in the package, does it include posting on my behalf? I know we talked about that, but I don’t know where we landed. [Michael Houck]: Yeah, we can do that if you’d like, That’s if you want it to be totally hands off and we just manage both posting and then also kind of sticking around on your account and engaging with replies and other thought leaders in your space for like 30 minutes to 45 minutes after we post. [Jennifer Kamara]: Okay. [Michael Houck]: We can totally do that as well. So I’ll include a note about that in the message I send you later today. [Jennifer Kamara]: Okay, great. Cool. Ketsey, I’m happy to stay on. We still have like 15 minutes. So I’m happy to talk and you can get some ideas or if you want, or if you want to reschedule something, I’m also happy to do that. Or you can do voice notes, whatever. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Yeah, I think because I would like to prep questions for you and like be really targeted. So I think that would be it would make sense if I did it later. To like just prep some questions because I do, like I loved, especially like the live design and stuff. I talk about it with my friends all the time, kind of discovered that, but also just all the other topics that you had listed. And good thing is that I actually already did like ghostwriting for someone who does like coaching for teams and like all that stuff. So I’m not like completely unfamiliar with the territory. So I’m excited to. [Jennifer Kamara]: Awesome. So then I’m happy to do that. Send me your questions. Something for you to know, Ketsia, it’s interesting how I work. I only take calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays because there’s a lot of research on like childcare and I want to be able to watch my kid in the first year we don’t have a nanny. And so I watch him Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays, my husband takes calls and I take my calls Tuesdays, Thursdays. So I’m unavailable for calls Monday, Wednesday, Friday, unless you want me to be a bit distracted, but I try to like, really clear my calendar those days. And so I think it’ll be fastest if you just send me your questions. And then if you can send them to me today, I can try to get them back to you before I log off today. Otherwise, I can get them to you by, if not, like, I will try to get them to you before the weekend, like tomorrow. But I prefer to work on it today. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: That sounds good. And also good boundaries. I hate Friday meetings. That’s my personal thing. So I completely understand. Understand setting those boundaries. So, yeah, that sounds good. I’ll send them to you by end of day today. [Michael Houck]: If you guys do want to use regular sort of content interviews as part of the process rather than the voice notes and Slack and things like that, that’s totally up to you. I know in the past, Jen, we prioritized the voice notes and Slack messages, but maybe it makes sense. We have started doing this. So, if you guys want to find a time that works to do that, that’s totally fine. [Jennifer Kamara]: because so far I’ve noticed it’s always me dragging us down in terms of timing because of the way that I work on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and so with like the voice notes and the reviews and so actually if you send me like a maybe maybe then take your time and send me like whatever content interview type questions you want and then maybe we can schedule time for Tuesday or if you need like we could do that. Yeah, just so that you can get like a deep dive for me on everything and then we’ll be able to work on all the posts at one time if you like, Yeah, that sounds good. That’s also available to you. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: No, that sounds good. I think like having something on Tuesday, really diving deep, I think would be really cool. And then I can also kind of research like trends and things like that within the industry a bit better. But yeah, I’m down for that, honestly. [Jennifer Kamara]: And then I’m just going to you know I’m available 2.30 Central and 10.30 Central on Tuesday. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: Okay. [Jennifer Kamara]: For half an hour. Do you need an hour? If you need an hour I can move something at 4 p.m. Central. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: I think maybe we can start with like half an hour you know and then you know talk. [Jennifer Kamara]: So tell me if you want 10.30 or 2.30 and I can send you an invite. [Qetsiyah Jacobson]: We can do 10.30. Okay. [Jennifer Kamara]: I’ll send you an invite now. Sounds good, thank you. Beautiful. And then send me the questions in advance so that I can think about them. In advance can be even Monday so that I can just read them in advance and just have some thoughts for you so I’m not just responding. That way I can be more thoughtful. Sounds good. Beautiful, thank you. So Mike, I’m going to now message Jake, Jacob, and then I’m going to message you which posts. Do want to keep and which ones I want to scrap. [Michael Houck]: Yep. And I’ll get, uh, I’ll, I’ll spend some time in a bit. I have to run over to the conference to do a talk, but after that, I’ll come back here and I will look into exactly how much time we have left. Um, and I’ll talk to you about the posts that came through before that weren’t up to, up to par. So we’ll figure all that out today. Um, and we’ll go from there. [Jennifer Kamara]: Awesome. Thank you so much. All right. Cool. Thanks. Appreciate y’all. Talk soon. Bye. Thank you. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Bye.
