[Max Palmer]: to meet you. I’m curious, would love to start just how you heard about us and what led you to taking a meeting. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah, so how I heard about you guys is a good and interesting question. I know we don’t have a lot of time either. So honestly, I can’t remember exactly how, but I’ve been subscribing to the newsletter for quite some time. So it’s from the newsletter that I found out about Megaphone. And immediately when I heard about Megaphone, I was intrigued by the idea. And so the product that I’m building now with Polar, we’re about to launch our 1.0 on Product Hunt in the next couple of weeks. So in the back of my mind, I was thinking about megaphone and wanted to try it out as part of that launch and then moving forward as well to continue to just amplify our messaging. We’ve been sort of in a cave building and now it’s definitely time to start making a little bit more noise than we have in the past. [Max Palmer]: Great. And are you doing this on Twitter or LinkedIn? [Birk Jernström]: Mostly it’s been on Twitter. I have shared things on LinkedIn as well. I will share on LinkedIn now also. But Twitter is, I think, where I found most resonance with the ecosystem and where I have a little bit more of a following than I do on LinkedIn. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Awesome. [Max Palmer]: Do you have a good understanding of how Megafont works? [Birk Jernström]: Uh, yes, in principle, I think, but I, so that’s why I took this call. Uh, so I just, I know we have like 15 minutes. And so to give you like the TLDR of polar, um, effectively our mission is to help developers focus on building their passions while we provide the platform to get them paid. Uh, so we started with open source developers, scaling to indie hackers and now into startups as well. Effectively, the tagline is like an open source Llamasqueezy alternative. So that’s what we’re shipping on September 5th. And what I wanted to see was basically, once we launch that on Product Hunt, we have all of those assets and we’ll write tweets and LinkedIn messages. But it’s a bit unclear to me, like I’ve chosen the niches on Megaphone, but I’m not sure, How much exposure reach does that potentially open up for me? And then second, how much should I set up as a budget to have a good chance of having a big impact on that day? [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Great. [Max Palmer]: So you’ve already onboarded. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. I’ve onboarded as, I forget the name of the tiers, but the most premium tier, like 89 bucks a month or so. [Birk Jernström]: And then the suggestion was to provide $100 as a budget. So I did, but my gut tells me $100 is probably not going to give me too much. [Max Palmer]: So $100 is a good amount for a big announcement post, which is what you're going to do on September 5th. [Max Palmer]: So I think that's a good starting point. Thankfully, in your realm in this startup software, founder tech realm, we have a ton of creators. So there's no there's no issue there in terms of greater alignment. You mentioned you already picked the different niches or categories that you're in. So you know, I assume you picked a few of those and There's plenty of niche alignment. So allocating $100 will get you several creators to engage, several very good creators to engage. The way the creators charge, and their pricing is entirely up to them, but typically they charge an extra every $10 100,000 followers they have. [Max Palmer]: So we have a creator with 370,000 followers. They charge $35 for engagement. Whereas we have creators with 50,000 followers and they usually charge five or $10. Yeah. Yeah. [Birk Jernström]: Okay. Cool. Um, yeah, it's, it's, it's fascinating. Uh, I've never done this before. Um, and so, yeah, it's fascinating that you could get so much for, for so little, I guess in a way. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, I mean, you know, you also have to create good content, right? And post at a good time, right? I would recommend posting in the morning on, you know, American time zones, because over 50% of our creators are in the US. So, you know, post at a good time. And I know you're going to be doing this. You'll probably have a link in your post. And as you probably know, links kill engagements on Twitter. [Max Palmer]: Because Twitter wants to keep you on Twitter. They don't want their users clicking your link and going off Twitter, right? So anytime you include a link, it's going to hurt your potential for that post really popping off. But if it's a good post and you get creators to engage, then it can still do well. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah, awesome. So we do, I mean, we have, I think a very nice video that's not as much as like, here's a product demo, but just more to encapsulate the mission that I think is like, I mean, I'm biased, but [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Max Palmer]: Videos are doing well on Twitter. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. Yeah. [Max Palmer]: So, so that's good. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. As I was wondering, like, Obviously, I want to drive click-through rates to the product hunt page and ideally get a lot of upvotes so that we have a good chance of being product of the day and whatnot, but would you almost recommend us maybe doing more of a, the first tweet is the video and like a native Twitter video. And then a second follow up tweet as part of the thread is like linking people to product. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yes. [Max Palmer]: So I would recommend the first tweet being the video and then five or 10 minutes after you post that tweet, add a second tweet onto it. That's the link to the product. Okay. [Max Palmer]: Okay, fascinating. [Birk Jernström]: So it's not like your game that you're actually organic. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, Hauk learned that when you're writing a thread and you want a lead magnet at the bottom of the thread, which is what all these newsletters and companies do, it's best to tweet the thread, let it sit for five minutes and then add that link. Um, because it like, it doesn't, it doesn't like suppress it as much when you add that link after posting the thread. Ah, cool. Yeah. Kind of just an interesting random trick for Twitter. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Uh, okay. Awesome. [Birk Jernström]: And yeah. Great. So, okay. I'll do that. I'll do, Maybe just one post or even if it's a thread, I'll start with the video and then no links in the thread. And then five, 10 minutes later, I'll follow up with a link to the product. And to your point, like if we bought and have people retweeting, quoting, or commenting, like obviously that will just continue to drive traffic. And eventually the added link to product will show up first in that thread because I'm the one adding it later on. Yeah, hopefully. Cool. All right. Nice. Nice. I guess the second question then that I have is, so I've seen the dashboard. I think everything makes sense. But obviously, maybe I should just try out one tweet about Polar that isn't about a specific launch, but just sort of engage and see how it works beyond that. But I'm curious. Yeah. So we chose the niches like tech, creators, and I believe startups was the third one. [Birk Jernström]: So when I share a broadcast to a tweet that I have, for instance, how quickly does that open up where I see, here's the creators. I guess they need to engage first and say they're willing to repost or do something. [Max Palmer]: So we'll send, since you're on the month $89 plan, we’re going to send your posts to creators instantly. That’s the difference between 89 and the $49 a month plan. So we'll send it to creators right as you send it to us. And then creators will have an hour to engage with that post. If they don't engage within an hour of us sending it to them, they won't get paid and we'll send it to a different creator in your space. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. Got it. Cool, nice. Yeah, I think I'll try it out maybe as well in advance. And the second question I had also was, you mentioned this, I think, but with the Product Hunt launch, the goal and standard is for us to launch at 12.01 AM Eastern Standard Time, I think it is, which is great. We're based in Sweden. So that's like the morning time for us and we have our entire day before the U.S. Wakes up. And then it's the second wave. But I'd be curious, like I would prefer probably to like get a lot of the Europeans to give you a lot of those uploads and traction in the early days while the Americans are sleeping. And then to just follow up as like a second wave later on in the AM for the U.S. Guys. How can I, is it possible to do that with one tweet where I can like throughout the day start engaging with, it's not, no? [Max Palmer]: No, yeah. The way it works is we'll send it to creators as soon as you send it to us and they have an hour to engage with it. So yeah, there's no way to kind of stagger the engagements out throughout the day. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah, yeah. But wouldn't it be possible then perhaps that I like, I do a post in the morning, Sweden time? Reach potential creators in Europe, that's awake. And then it's the same post, but doing that again, like in the morning time, US time. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, you can do two posts. I just don't know. Let me because the majority of our creators are in in the US. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. [Max Palmer]: Let me see. I had a breakdown of So yeah, 50% of creators in the US, Europe, 17% about 25% in Asia and then elsewhere. So I just, I don't know how many creators in your niche we have, you know, on European time zone who will engage with it when you post that, you know, your early time. But, but yeah, that's definitely possible. You can post, you know, do two in one day. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Birk Jernström]: But also, Sep, we have a good network and community already. I'm curious, based on your expertise around Twitter and this specific algorithm with your learnings, if we get a lot of people, if we post in the morning Swedish time, so this is like midnight in California, let's say, obviously the US will be sleeping. Let's say we don't use megaphone at that stage. We just leverage our existing community across Europe. Uh, we do this post with a video and then five, 10 minutes later, I follow up the product on link as well. Like 9 AM, uh, PST when the U S is awake, like that's when we go on megaphone and the thread has hopefully received a lot of like traction already pushed on our side. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Birk Jernström]: Or do you think that will fizzle out? Like, does it need to like go viral basically instantly? Yeah, I would, I would probably. [Max Palmer]: And, and, you know, I don't know if you should be taking my full advice because in terms of like, this is basically, you know, social media consulting. So don't, don't trust me on everything. But, um, I would probably advise to, to not do that when a, when a tweet is nine hours old and then you try to get the engagement back up, it might not do well as if a tweet was fresh and you had people engaging right away. So that's what I probably recommend. [Birk Jernström]: Got it. Got it. [Max Palmer]: But I see what you mean there. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah. Yeah. I think it's a predicament because it's like very like in product hunt land, like those first few hours, like getting as many uploads as possible before they disclosed in number of uploads and the ranking, like that's very, very key. So we will need to like promote it. Midnight time in the US, which is a bit weird. [Birk Jernström]: So I think I'll have to like try it out this way. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Birk Jernström]: And you know, hope. I guess hopefully it's not that the creators don't want to engage because it feels like it's old content if it's nine hours and rather it's like, I don't know, the mercy of the algorithm gods instead. [Max Palmer]: Yeah, no, I mean, the creators will still engage, right? Because they're getting paid to. So, yeah, it's the mercy of the algorithm gods. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. Great. Awesome. Let's see if I have any. [Birk Jernström]: No, just a double confirmancy bait. Like if someone had 50,000 followers, that was like five to $10 engage. And then from there, you said it’s about like $10 per a hundred thousand that they have typically, uh, typically. Yeah. Great. All right. Uh, cool. So I’ll just think on that a little bit and follow up question to that is let’s say that I have a hundred dollars in the budget and we get a lot of creators that want to engage with our contents. Like we can top up our budget at any time to just continue to like empty out the coffers or. [Max Palmer]: Um, I don’t know. Let me check on that. I’m not sure if you can continue. [Max Palmer]: Budget for a post throughout the day. [Max Palmer]: Uh, okay. I just pinged how that’s a good question. I don’t, I don’t think I’ve gotten that before. Uh, he usually responds pretty way, but I don’t know. [Birk Jernström]: It works. You have my email, right? So you can follow up a sink later on as well. It’s no, uh, no stress right now. [Max Palmer]: Yeah. Yeah. Um, but that’s a good question. So I will, I will get back to you on that. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: Yeah. [Birk Jernström]: Okay. Cool. Great. Uh, awesome. [Birk Jernström]: Yeah, I think that is everything that I had. I think I’ll just try it out with some, I’ll figure out a good tweet to experiment with before the product launch, just to get a full understanding of how everything works ahead of time. But otherwise, yeah, I have everything I need. [Max Palmer]: Perfect. All right. I’ll shoot you an email in a bit. [Birk Jernström]: Awesome. I appreciate it, Max. And thank you so much for your time today. All right. Thanks, Birk. Have a good one. Bye bye. [UNKNOWN_SPEAKER]: you.
