Hook Framework
Tatem categorizes hooks as visual or auditory - both are used for Ben G because neither alone keeps people watching long enough.
- Auditory hooks: cause viewers to stay for the full video. Primarily drive watch time.
- Visual hooks: can also drive watch time, but sometimes function purely as scroll-stoppers (e.g., animated text overlays). Ben G uses both.
Content Sourcing: Outliers Only
Ben G videos are sourced almost 1:1 from other creators, but with a strict filter: only posts that are outliers on that creator’s page (5-10x their regular view count). A video that performed “well” overall does not qualify unless it outperformed that creator’s own baseline.
Hashtags used to find source material: #ai, #aitips, #claude, etc.
Ben G sends example videos when he submits his recorded footage each day. Those are the primary training/inspiration inputs.
Save Rate vs. Raw Views
- A 3x views / 0.5x save rate video: still a win. People enjoyed it but did not save for re-watch.
- Tatem prefers the opposite (same or lower views, higher save rate): higher conversion rate, better for follower growth.
- Save rate is the primary signal for content quality; raw view count is a floor filter only, not a quality metric.
Saved Inspo Library
Tatem saves videos as she scrolls, categorized by client. When a shoot or content request arrives, she compiles the relevant saves into a sheet or texts them to the client. Most educational-format inspo videos are not saved because Tatem applies the same structure to everyone. The source videos Ben G sends with his daily recordings are the most actionable library.
Implications for Hermes
- When pulling content inspiration for Ben G: filter by outlier performance vs. creator’s own baseline, not absolute view count.
- Auditory hook + visual hook combination is the current production standard for Ben G videos.
- Save rate is the right metric to optimize for; raw virality is a floor, not a goal.
- Source hashtags: ai, aitips, claude (start here for scraping/discovery).
